Removing Me from Politics Is a Daydream: MP S. Sritharan
25-Jan-2026.
Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi Jaffna District MP S. Sritharan said attempts by certain individuals, including some within his own party, to remove him from politics are nothing more than a “daydream.”
Speaking during the parliamentary debate on the Universities (Amendment) Bill on 23 January, the MP said efforts are being made to level false allegations against him to oust him and seize positions of power.
He said his people are fully aware of the truth and that he has faithfully served their interests.
Responding to allegations made by MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, Sritharan challenged him to substantiate the claims with evidence if he truly intends to pursue national leadership ambitions. He said accusations against him stem from his refusal to sign a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister.
Sritharan rejected allegations relating to land acquisition, financial misconduct, and irregularities in the Poonakary power project, stating that he has acted justly and independently throughout his 16-year parliamentary career and as a member of the Constitutional Council.
He questioned why investigations into complaints filed with the Financial Crimes Investigation Division and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption have not progressed, and called for transparency and justice.
Highlighting ongoing militarization in the North and East, Sritharan questioned why opposition leaders remain silent on issues such as land release, military-run civilian enterprises, and alleged human rights violations.
Concluding his speech, he demanded that all allegations against him be properly investigated and the truth be made public, stating that he seeks justice and accountability.
