19-Dec-2025.
Tamil National Alliance MP Kavindran Kodeeswaran said that flood victims in the Ampara District have not received proper relief and urged the government to pay special attention.
Speaking during the adjournment debate on Dec 18, he said both human and physical resources have been affected by the disaster, and the government has a duty to provide assistance.
Farmers, fishermen, and daily wage earners in Ampara have been severely affected. Fishermen cannot go to sea, farmers have lost livestock, and many have fallen below the poverty line.
He called for increased compensation, noting that some households were denied aid and asked to provide photographic proof of flooding. He also highlighted severe soil erosion in areas such as Thirukkovil, Karaitivu, and Pottuvil, damaging temples, agricultural lands, and homes.
