Ranil will face political arrest – Mahinda

The people of the country clearly understand the actions of this government. Such actions are nothing but political revenge. Arrests in politics are a tradition, and Ranil Wickremesinghe will face it, said former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He expressed these views to the media on August 23, after visiting former President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the prison hospital.

Rajapaksa further stated: “Ranil Wickremesinghe conversed with us quite normally. I felt that he is not overly concerned about these matters. If one engages in politics, such arrests are part of the tradition, and therefore these situations apply to him as well.

However, it is unfortunate that he is facing such a situation. Arresting and imprisoning national leaders for minor issues is wrong. It is not good for a former Executive President to face this.

Ultimately, the people themselves must respond to this. This is nothing but political revenge. It is because we stood with the people that they continue to stand with us today.”
