Residents of Mannar continued their protest for the 13th consecutive day on August 15 regarding wind power and sand extraction projects, stating they will persist until a firm and final solution is reached.

Protesters carried various placards and raised slogans in the main areas of Mannar.

Although the President had pledged to halt the wind project for a month during a recent meeting, protesters stated they would not stop until a definitive decision is made.

Last week, Energy Minister Kumar Jayakody had also announced a one-week halt to the project. However, despite this promise, project components were transported into Mannar city during nighttime, ignoring public opposition.

Consequently, trust in the President’s assurances remains low, and protests continue.
