The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the Colombo Crime Division to conduct a full investigation and submit a report concerning incidents where certain prison inmates had issued death threats to individuals outside the prison using mobile phones.

After considering the report submitted by the Colombo Crime Division, Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued this order.

Police informed the court that investigations were launched based on an anonymous complaint.

They also stated that steps have been taken to obtain mobile phone analysis reports to identify the inmates involved and requested court authorization to collect such data from private telecommunication companies.

The Magistrate, considering the submissions, ordered several private telecommunication firms to provide the requested call detail records.

The Magistrate further directed the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incidents, arrest the suspects involved, and produce them before the court.
