Prime Minister Meets UNICEF Officials on Strengthening Child Protection

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya met with senior UNICEF representatives and Dr. Najat Maalla M'jid, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on Violence Against Children, to discuss strengthening Sri Lanka's child protection systems.

The discussions focused on preventing violence against children, improving child welfare services, strengthening cooperation between government agencies, and ensuring effective implementation of existing child protection policies. The Prime Minister thanked UNICEF for its continued support, particularly in disaster response, education reforms, and initiatives to combat violence against children. UNICEF representatives also highlighted the need for accessible reporting mechanisms and stronger coordination among all stakeholders.
