The Consumer Affairs Authority has collected over Rs. 285 million in fines through enforcement operations carried out last year, according to an official statement.

This amount was recovered through legal action initiated following 21,000 inspections conducted islandwide in 2025.

During the same period, the Authority tested 223 food and non-food product samples to ensure quality standards. These included steel bars, coconut oil, cosmetics, rice, canned fish, chilli powder, milk, hair dyes, syrups, and other products.

The Authority also noted that 5,002 complaints were received last year via the 1977 Consumer Complaints Hotline, of which approximately 79 percent were resolved.
