Opposition Intensifies Efforts to Pressure Government: Minister Nalinda Jayatissa

Minister of Health Nalinda Jayatissa said opposition parties never unite to address citizens’ problems. Instead, they have combined forces to focus on creating difficulties for the government amid global crises.
Addressing media in Kandy on March 13, he noted that while no one can predict the end of war, it is prudent to limit the use of force in a controlled manner. He stressed that reducing daily public services would be inappropriate. He also highlighted that fuel consumption had tripled after March 1, a trend that requires caution.
He emphasised that ordinary citizens would not face hardship if unnecessary consumption is curtailed. The government has no plans to restrict public services, and it remains vigilant regarding the economic impact of ongoing conflict, while urging citizens to act responsibly for national welfare.
Jayatissa underscored that opposition unity is directed toward seizing power by exploiting crises, rather than genuinely addressing economic development or public welfare. He reiterated the government’s commitment to combating corruption and upholding the rule of law and called for collective national cooperation amidst challenges.
