Nine Fuel Ships to Arrive in April: Minister Vijitha Expresses Confidence
07-Apr-2026.
Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath stated that nine fuel ships are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka during the month of April.
He made this statement while addressing the 55th April Heroes’ Day event organised by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna in Matara on April 5.
He said the government has successfully managed the energy crisis created by the war situation in the Middle East.
He added that the government would be able to restore normalcy by converting the recently declared Wednesday holiday back into a working day and by removing the QR system and odd-even number distribution methods.
He stated that new measures were introduced and that although there were difficulties and queues in the initial weeks, the QR and odd-even systems were introduced as immediate solutions.
Wednesday was declared a holiday, and the government has now managed to eliminate queues. He said the systems are currently functioning well.
He noted that if these systems are no longer necessary in the coming days, the government is ready to remove them. He also stated that there is no need to continue Wednesday as a holiday, and once the situation stabilises, work can resume as required.
He explained that such decisions were taken earlier due to delays in fuel shipments, but now there is no need for fear, as nine more fuel ships are expected in April.
