Motor Traffic Commissioner General Arrested Over Alleged Vehicle Registration Fraud

The Commissioner General of the Department of Motor Traffic, Kamal Amarasinghe, was arrested on March 28 by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with alleged fraud in vehicle registration procedures.
The CID stated that he was arrested as part of an investigation into irregularities reported in the vehicle registration process.
Police said the Commissioner General has been accused of assisting in the fraudulent registration of a cab-type vehicle by altering its chassis number, and of acting as an accomplice in the process.
Amarasinghe, who was arrested by officers of the CID’s Financial Crimes Investigation Division, was produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court on March 28.
