Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on October 3 accused the BJP of attempting to exploit the Karur stampede, which claimed 41 lives, for political mileage rather than concern for the state.

He said when the state was struck by three major disasters that left thousands suffering, the Union Finance Minister neither visited immediately nor released funds, but chose instead to go to Karur.

The Chief Minister further pointed out that the BJP had not sent fact-finding committees to probe incidents such as the Manipur riots, the Kumbh Mela deaths, or deaths in Gujarat. “But in Karur, they sent one immediately,” he remarked.

“This is not because of concern for Tamil Nadu but because elections are approaching. They are seeking political mileage or using it to threaten anyone,” Stalin added.
