A protest was held in front of the United States Embassy in Kollupitiya, Colombo, demanding an end to the war aggression by the United States and Israel and calling on the Sri Lankan government to immediately cancel military agreements signed with foreign countries.

The demonstration, organised by the People’s Struggle Movement on April 5, saw slogans raised such as “Defeat US-Israeli war madness,” “Stop occupations,” and “Cancel all military agreements including the US-Sri Lanka defence pact.”

Protesters strongly insisted that the government must immediately withdraw from various security and defence agreements signed with the United States, India, and Japan.

They stated that under the current global political situation, Sri Lanka should not be allowed to become a pawn for the military interests of powerful nations.

The protest was attended by Ven. Wekandawala Rahula Thera, Duminda Nagamuwa (Propaganda Secretary of the Frontline Socialist Party), Attorney-at-Law Nuwan Bopage (National Executive Committee Member of the People’s Struggle Movement), Wasantha Mudalige, along with many political activists, supporters, and members of the public.

Protesters warned that Sri Lanka becoming trapped in military alliances of global powers would undermine national sovereignty, and that military agreements, particularly with the United States, would adversely affect the country’s future.

Despite heavy police security deployed near the embassy, demonstrators continued their protest by holding placards, throwing effigies, and urging the Sri Lankan government not to support occupation wars.
