Man arrested for filming roads where IGP and Chief Justice reside

A man who allegedly recorded videos on his mobile phone of the roads where the official residences of Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya and Chief Justice Padman Surasena are located in Colombo was arrested by Cinnamon Gardens Police on August 7.

According to police, a man who arrived in a luxury car parked the vehicle and stood on a road near the official residence of the IGP while recording a video. A Special Task Force officer on duty at the main entrance noticed the incident.

The officer immediately informed a police constable who was on traffic duty nearby, and the information was subsequently conveyed to the Colombo Emergency Call Division.

Based on the information, Cinnamon Gardens Police rushed to the location, conducted inquiries and arrested the suspect.

A search of the suspect’s mobile phone revealed that videos had been recorded of the official residences of the IGP and the Chief Justice, as well as the roads surrounding the residences.

The suspect reportedly told police that he had recorded the videos for entertainment purposes. However, a senior police officer said that during intensive questioning, the suspect had provided contradictory information regarding his place of residence.

The suspect, a 40-year-old resident of Alubomulla, Arukwatte, has been arrested in connection with the incident. Cinnamon Gardens Police are conducting further investigations.
