Low-Pressure Area May Develop Into a Cyclone
26-Oct-2025.
The low-pressure area over the southeastern Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression and is centered about 900 kilometers east of Batticaloa.
It is expected to move west-northwestwards, strengthening into a deep depression by October 26, and could further intensify into a cyclone by Monday morning, according to the Department of Meteorology of Sri Lanka.
It is predicted that by tomorrow morning, the system will become a cyclone over the southwestern and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, and within the next 48 hours, it may move toward the Andhra Pradesh coast.
Therefore, the Department has advised fishermen and those engaging in maritime activities in the sea areas off Kankesanthurai through Trincomalee to Batticaloa to refrain from venturing into the sea until further notice.
