Let's seize the provincial councils: Dayasiri says

We challenge the government to hold provincial council elections. Out of the nine provincial councils, we will capture a majority together. For that, I call upon all opposition parties to begin preparations immediately”, Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara said.

Speaking at the 79th convention of the United National Party held in Colombo on September2, he made the above remarks.

He continued: Past elections have clearly shown us that division leads to defeat. Even within the UNP, divisions began. After 77 years, Ranil Wickremesinghe has managed to mend those divisions. Even when parties split, democracy in the country was preserved. Those who obstructed development for decades brainwashed the youth.

Now, they say they will change Parliament to suit their own needs. We will never allow that. Therefore, we regard this unity as a blessing. Without even being invited, everyone united for Ranil Wickremesinghe, forcing the government to kneel.

Otherwise, the opposition members would have been arrested one by one. They are being arrested solely for being opposition politicians. For the first time in history, a person who rose through politics has been appointed Director of the CID. Everyone is targeted by him.

Even before arrests happen, ministers announce who will be taken next. It was Ranil Wickremesinghe who prevented Sri Lanka from becoming like Bangladesh or Nepal. For that, he declared a state of emergency. He is accused of violating human rights by doing so, but we have no answer for that. If today there is still a country for Anura to govern, it is because of Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The reserves maintained by Ranil remain intact even after a year. But this cannot continue. This government will not last long. We must all join together and start working to send them home. We challenge the government to hold provincial council elections. Out of the nine councils, we will capture a majority, he said.
