The Colombo Magistrate’s Court on June 19 granted bail to the current General Manager of Lanka Salt Company, Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Gunaratne, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over allegations of causing a loss of Rs. 14.3 million to the Government through corrupt practices.

The Magistrate ordered his release on two personal surety bails of Rs. 5 million each. The court also imposed a foreign travel ban and directed the suspect to surrender his passport.

According to CIABOC officials, the suspect had allegedly caused a loss of Rs. 14.3 million to the State by procuring salt packaging materials in violation of procurement procedures, thereby benefiting a supplier company and committing an act of corruption.
