Kurunegala Deputy Mayor Azarudeen suspended from party membership

Kurunegala Municipal Council Deputy Mayor Azarudeen Mainudeen, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption in connection with an inquiry into alleged irregularities related to procurement procedures of the Kurunegala Municipal Council, has been suspended from party membership with immediate effect, announced the party’s Legal Affairs Director, Attorney Rushdi Habeeb.

The announcement was made in an official statement issued by the party.

The statement further noted that the All Ceylon Makkal Congress maintains a firm and uncompromising stance against corruption and any conduct that undermines the rule of law. The party does not condone any act that damages public trust or violates its principles of integrity and accountability.

It further stated that the suspension will remain in force until the completion of ongoing investigations and any subsequent legal proceedings. The party stressed that the law must be allowed to take its course without interference and expressed confidence that full cooperation will be extended to relevant authorities.

The party also clarified that the allegations against the individual concerned are purely personal in nature and do not reflect the policies, values, or official position of the party.

The All Ceylon Makkal Congress added that it will continue to monitor developments and take further action in accordance with its constitution and disciplinary procedures.
