Kehelbaddara Padme Remanded Until 12 October

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered that Kehelbaddara Padme be remanded in custody until 12 October in connection with an incident involving the illegal transportation of Gampaha Baba and Babi to India by boat.

The case was taken up for hearing on 28 September 2026 before Colombo Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama. Korale-gamage Manudina Padmasiri Perera, alias Kehelbaddara Padme, who has been named as a suspect in the case, was produced before the court via video link.

During the proceedings, the suspect told the court: “Honourable Magistrate, attempts have been made to give me cyanide on two occasions. There is inadequate security at the Welisara Prison. My life is under threat. Therefore, I request the court to provide me with proper security.”

Taking into consideration the matters presented before the court, the Magistrate directed prison authorities to submit a report regarding the incident. The Magistrate also ordered that the suspect be remanded until 12 October.

It is noteworthy that the above case has been filed against Kehelbaddara Padme over allegations that he illegally transported Gampaha Baba and Babi to India by boat.
