13-Sep-2025.
Along with the long-standing friendship between Sri Lanka and Japan, the Government of Japan is ready to continue extending its support for the future development of Sri Lanka’s health sector, stated Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Akio Isomata.
On September 10, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, together with Japanese Ambassador Akio Isomata and other Japanese delegates, made a special visit to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (Colombo), which is the country’s premier government hospital. During the visit, they also inspected the medical equipment donated by the Government of Japan.
This inspection was carried out to better understand the medical services provided through the donated equipment, and to ensure Japan’s continued contribution and support toward the development of Sri Lanka’s health sector.
A few months earlier, the Government of Japan donated an MRI machine, CT scan machine, Cath-lab treatment unit, essential medical equipment, and surgical instruments to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, aimed at improving people’s health standards and providing high-quality medical services. The value of this donation is estimated at around 1,000 million Japanese Yen.
Minister Nalinda Jayatissa expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Akio Isomata and the Government of Japan for their efforts in providing these donations with the future development of Sri Lanka’s health sector in mind. He also stated that the current government and the Ministry of Health are paying special attention to the development of the country’s primary national hospital, while also seeking assistance from other countries.
Ambassador Akio Isomata reiterated that, in addition to the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Japan and the support provided so far, the Government of Japan remains prepared to continue supporting the future growth of Sri Lanka’s health sector.
