Issue Raised by the British Tamil Forum with the First Minister of Scotland
23-Nov-2025.
Members of the British Tamil Forum have urged Scottish First Minister John Swinney to recognize the necessity of acknowledging the right to self-determination of Sri Lankan Tamils and the importance of establishing an international criminal justice mechanism.
The meeting between the First Minister (who is the head of the Scottish Government and responsible for all government policies and decisions) and the British Tamil Forum members took place last week.
During this meeting, the Forum briefed the First Minister on the dire situation faced by Tamils who have been waiting for justice for nearly 16 years.
They also emphasized the need for an international criminal justice mechanism and the importance of recognizing the right to self-determination for Tamils in Sri Lanka.
The Forum stated that it expects to continue maintaining its relationship with the Scottish National Party (SNP) and is prepared to work with the SNP to achieve justice, accountability, and legitimate political aspirations for the Tamil people.
