Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stressed the importance of strengthening Sri Lanka’s vocational education system and aligning it with internationally recognized standards in order to build a skilled, ethical, and globally competitive workforce.

She made these remarks while addressing a special event titled “New Heights of Recognition,” organized by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Sri Lanka at Cinnamon Life on 18 February.

At the event, a new curriculum for the Diploma in Human Resource Management (CQHRM), accredited under SCQF Level 11 and carrying QS certification, was officially launched.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to expand professional and vocational education pathways, stating that education should not be limited by age and must enable individuals to continue learning while engaged in employment.

She noted that as Sri Lanka focuses on economic recovery, institutional reform, and sustainable growth, strong human resource leadership is essential. A competitive economy, she said, depends not only on investment and infrastructure but also on qualified professionals capable of effectively leading institutions.

She also highlighted the role of HR management in promoting workplace equity, including fair recruitment practices, safe working environments, women’s leadership development, and inclusive policies for persons with disabilities.

Additionally, she underscored the growing impact of artificial intelligence on workforce management and the need to prepare rapidly for technological change.
