International DNA Testing Needed for Human Bones Found in Chemmani
07-Oct-2025.
The families of missing persons have demanded that human remains recovered in Chemmani be subjected to DNA testing by international experts to determine justice.
This was stated by Sivanandan Genira, Secretary of the Association of the Disappeared in the North-East, during a media briefing in Kilinochchi.
He further explained that since 2009, they have been campaigning for justice for their missing relatives but have been continuously let down by successive governments in Sri Lanka.
They insist that domestic mechanisms are insufficient and that only a process meeting international standards can deliver justice. He also clarified that the protest in Jaffna on October 6 has no connection to their association.
