IMF Chief Visits Landslide-Hit Udapalatha Area

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva visited Mawathura village in the Udapalatha Divisional Secretariat area, which was affected by landslides caused by Cyclone Ditwah, on 17 February.

In the severely affected area, many houses were destroyed, leaving 28 people dead and six missing. Georgieva expressed her condolences to affected residents and commended the government’s swift response as well as the resilience and unity shown by the people.

She expressed hope that the children in the area would contribute significantly to the country’s future development and stated her confidence that the government would work to empower the younger generation.
