High-Level Fisheries Ministry Delegation to Visit India
08-Sep-2026.
A high-level delegation from Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Fisheries is scheduled to visit India on September 25 for official talks aimed at resolving fisheries-related issues between India and Sri Lanka.
Fisheries, Aquatic Resources and Marine Resources Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar said the delegation would hold discussions with Indian officials on issues including bottom-trawling activities carried out by Tamil Nadu fishermen in Sri Lanka’s northern waters.
He said the main objective of the talks would be to prevent Tamil Nadu fishermen from illegally entering Sri Lankan waters and engaging in bottom-trawling activities.
He further stressed that Sri Lanka would not engage in any negotiations regarding Katchatheevu.
The minister said this would be the first official-level dialogue on the fisheries dispute between the two countries since the National People’s Power (NPP) Government assumed office.
