High Court Rules Former Health Minister Kehaliya Rambukwella and Others Violated Fundamental Human Rights

The High Court ruled on March 27 that a group of officials, including former Health Minister Kehaliya Rambukwella, violated fundamental human rights by procuring medical equipment from an unregistered company in contravention of procurement procedures under the 2022 India Loan Project.
The court directed that former Health Minister Kehaliya Rambukwella must remit Rs. 75 million to the government from his personal funds. In addition, former Health Ministry Secretary Janaka Chandrakuptha and former Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority, Professor S.D. Jayaratne, are each required to pay Rs. 50 million as compensation to the government.
Furthermore, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority, Dr. Vijith Gunasekara, and former Director of Medical Supplies, Dr. Arambegedara Dushitha Sudarshan, are jointly required to pay Rs. 50 million as compensation to the government, according to the court verdict.
