Hemarathana Thera Suspended from Atamasthanadhipathi Post

The Malwathu Chapter has announced the temporary suspension of Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera from the position of Atamasthanadhipathi of the Sacred Atamasthana in Anuradhapura.

To ensure the uninterrupted administration of the Atamasthana, the Chapter has decided to appoint Ven. Ethalawetunuwewe Gnanathilaka Nayaka Thera, Chief Sanghanayake of the North Central Province and Chief Incumbent of the Ruwanwelisaya, to perform the duties on an interim basis.

The decision was communicated through an official letter issued by Dr. Pamune Sumangala Thera, Secretary of the Malwathu Maha Viharaya.

According to the statement, the Sangha Council carefully examined allegations made against Ven. Hemarathana Thera, who also serves as Chief Sanghanayake of Nuwarakalaviya. Relevant parties were summoned and extensive inquiries conducted.

Based on the decision of the Sangha Council on May 30, the Thera's ecclesiastical positions have been suspended until the completion of ongoing court proceedings and the issuance of a final judicial verdict.

The interim arrangement will remain in effect until a final ruling is delivered by the judiciary.
