Gold worth Rs 1 crore hidden in bicycle tyre seized near Bangladesh border

The Border Security Force (BSF) seized gold worth Rs 1.02 crore being smuggled along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal's Malda district, officials said on November 27. But the turn of events that led the BSF personnel to effect the seizure was one usual detail – the swollen tyres of a bicycle.
On November 26, the border force acted on an intelligence tip-off which said that a local smuggler might attempt to slip gold across the MS Pur Border Outpost. Following the alert, BSF troops beefed up the surveillance, scanning every movement in the area.
They spotted a man who pedalled towards the border, appearing calm but drawing suspicion. When questioned, he seemed a bit hesitant and nervous, following which the troops’ attention shifted to the bicycle. The front tyre sported an unusual bulge, and it seemed oddly rigid, far from what a normal bicycle wheel should look like.
