Fuel Purchase from Russia Confirmed: Ceylon Petroleum Corporation
03-Apr-2026.
The purchase of fuel from Russia has now been confirmed, and fuel shipments are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka this month without delay, according to Mayura Neththikumara, Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).
Speaking to the media, he said discussions are continuing with Russia regarding fuel procurement, and shipments for April and May have largely been confirmed.
He explained that Sri Lanka has only two main ports capable of unloading fuel, and discussions are currently focused on arrival dates and technical matters. However, he confirmed that fuel supply has been secured.
He assured that there will be no fuel shortage in the country under any circumstances.
He said another diesel shipment is expected to arrive today (April 2), carrying around 32,000 metric tonnes of diesel and 5,000 metric tonnes of aviation fuel. Two more diesel shipments are expected on 6 and 7 April, and all vessels expected during the first week of April will arrive as planned.
He noted that all expected shipments last month also arrived.
Based on current stocks, he said Sri Lanka has sufficient fuel reserves until the end of May, even after the festive season. However, he urged the public to use fuel sparingly due to high prices, and requested state institutions to properly follow energy management guidelines.
