Five Senior DIGs transferred

The Police Headquarters has announced the transfer of five Senior Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs), with the transfers taking effect immediately, on the recommendation of the National Police Commission.

The transfers have been made on the instructions of Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya, the Police Headquarters said.

Accordingly, Senior DIG Sampath Kumar, who was in charge of the Special Bureau, has been transferred as the Senior DIG in charge of the Eastern Province. Senior DIG Githsiri Jayalath, who was in charge of the Southern Province, has been transferred as the Senior DIG in charge of the Sabaragamuwa Province.

Senior DIG Varuna Jayasundara, who is in charge of the Children and Women’s Bureau, has additionally been appointed as the Acting Senior DIG in charge of the Training and Higher Training Division.

Senior DIG K.P. Karunayanake, who was serving in a special security post, has been transferred to the post of Senior DIG in charge of the Northern Province.

Meanwhile, Buddhika Siriwardena, who was serving as the Senior DIG in charge of the Northern Province, has been transferred as the Senior DIG in charge of the Southern Province.

The Police Headquarters has also taken steps to transfer six Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs). Accordingly, ASP Namal Perera, who was serving as the Director of the Galle District Crime Investigation Division, has been transferred to the Police Field Force.

Police Headquarters sources said the transfers had been made in the interest of service requirements.
