Final Report on Electronic Visa System by September 17

The Auditor General’s Department conducted a special audit of the electronic visa issuance system and submitted a draft report to the Department of Immigration and Emigration for final evaluation.

Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Anand Vijepala stated that the final evaluation and monitoring report will be submitted by September 17.

During a parliamentary session on September 12, MP Kavinda Jayawardena raised questions regarding the system, which the Minister answered.

The report outlines that GPS technology services and IVS Global and VF companies will coordinate with the Department of Immigration to implement the visa service via a real-time system. This follows a report issued on July 12.

Eight fundamental rights petitions have been filed in the High Court challenging the electronic visa system, which are currently under judicial review. Future steps will depend on court rulings.
