The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has announced that the final decision regarding the proposed revision of electricity tariffs, submitted by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), will be made next week.

Last month, the CEB had proposed a 6% increase in electricity charges.

In response, the Commission began public consultations on September 18 in the Eastern Province.

Feedback from the public has since been collected across eight provinces, with more than 500 participants contributing. The final hearing for public opinion in the Western Province has been scheduled for October 8.

While analyzing the submissions, the Commission is also considering the CEB’s expenses, including fuel procurement, power plant operations, distribution costs, and debt repayment.
