Farmers Reject Allegations Over Iranamadu Irrigation Scheme
01-Mar-2026.
The Chairman of the Farmers’ Organizations under the Iranamadu Irrigation Scheme in the Northern Province rejected allegations made by MP Archchuna against 28 affiliated farmer associations.
Speaking at a media briefing at the Jaffna Media Centre on February 28, he said the accusations—relating to alleged financial irregularities and claims that the organizations are unregistered—are baseless.
He stated that the MP made the allegations during a Kilinochchi District Coordinating Committee meeting without consulting the farmers’ organizations. The Chairman accused the MP of attempting to politicize the irrigation scheme for personal political gain.
He further alleged that the actions risk undermining northern irrigation systems and associated farmer organizations, thereby harming agriculture in the region.
He urged the MP to refrain from making unilateral accusations and instead focus on addressing the challenges faced by northern farmers.
