Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippili urged the public to avoid travelling to disaster-affected areas because it is extremely dangerous.

Speaking at a media briefing on Dec 8, he warned the public not to bathe or wander near water bodies with strong currents. Such activities interfere with relief operations.

He reminded the public that complaints about relief distribution can be directed to the hotline 117, which has already received over 100,000 calls.

He cautioned that all affected areas are filled with loosened soil and people must stay alert. Those in areas under red alert should evacuate immediately and not return until authorities complete inspections.
