Dilith Jayaweera can build the country – Ven. Ampitiye Sumanaratana Thero

Ven. Ampitiye Sumanaratana Thero of Batticaloa Mangalaaram Viharaya has stated that Dilith Jayaweera is the only leader capable of rebuilding the country in the future.

He made the remarks at a public meeting in Thoppigala, Divulapathana area, held on May 9 in connection with a court ruling favourable to Sinhala farmers engaged in agriculture in the region.

The Thero said the country had been destroyed over the past 30 years due to political manipulation and corruption, and stressed the need for leadership with true patriotism.

He also referred to alleged corruption scandals including the Central Bank bond issue and said a new cultural and moral framework was needed.

He stated that recent court decisions have restored agricultural lands to farmers who had been displaced, and urged the government to provide necessary infrastructure and fertiliser support.

He added that urgent steps are needed to ensure food security and develop agriculture in the region.
