Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath stated that Sri Lanka has officially conveyed its condolences over the death of Iran’s spiritual leader and that he would sign the condolence book at the Iranian Embassy on behalf of the country.
He made the statement in Parliament on March 4 responding to a question raised by Sri Lanka Muslim Congress leader Rauff Hakeem, who had asked why the government had not publicly expressed its position.
Minister Herath said the Foreign Ministry had already issued an official statement and reaffirmed that Sri Lanka had fulfilled its diplomatic responsibilities.
