Chemmani Skeletal Remains Are Evidence of Tamil Genocide, Says MP S. Shritharan
25-Jun-2026.
Tamil National Alliance MP Ilayathambi S. Shritharan stated that the skeletal remains being continuously unearthed at Chemmani in Jaffna constitute documentary evidence of the injustices and acts of genocide allegedly committed against Tamils over several decades.
He urged the Government to demonstrate its neutrality and commitment to justice by taking a firm stand on the matter.
The MP made these remarks during the parliamentary debate on the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, orders issued under the Special Commodity Levy Act, and regulations under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act on June 23.
He noted that more than 400 skeletal remains have so far been identified at the Chemmani site and that significant evidence has emerged through ongoing investigations.
While thanking the Government for facilitating the investigations through the Ministry of Justice, he stressed the need for expedited action to identify human remains buried in other locations and to ensure justice for victims.
According to the MP, there is a responsibility to document these findings as evidence of the injustices suffered by Tamils and to establish the truth regarding allegations of genocide.
He called on the Government to demonstrate impartiality and commitment to justice through decisive action.
