The fuel distribution infrastructure in the Eastern Province has been disrupted due to ongoing conflicts, affecting 19 fuel depots in the region and several others outside it. Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Arun Hemachandra stated in Parliament on April 8 that even a temporary ceasefire will take time to mitigate its consequences, particularly in sectors like overseas employment, tourism, and energy.

He noted that the temporary ceasefire must eventually be made permanent to establish lasting peace. Relief measures following the Thithwa cyclone have been provided to 431,166 households and 178,890 schoolchildren, along with appropriate compensation for rent and loss of life.
