Tamil Nadu witnessed a brazen attack on a police escort on January 24 when a gang hurled country-made bombs at a police vehicle transporting a history-sheeter on the Trichy-Chennai highway, triggering sharp political reactions over the state’s law and order situation.

The attack took place near the Perambalur toll plaza as police were escorting a rowdy identified as Vellai Kali from Madurai to Chennai for interrogation.
