Boat carrying 10 persons from Kurikattuwan to Delft Island goes missing

A boat carrying 10 persons from the Kurikattuwan area towards Delft Island was involved in an accident at sea and has gone missing.

The boat had commenced its journey from the Kurikattuwan area when the incident occurred.

Of the 10 persons travelling on board, two have been identified as boat operators. Although the sea remains rough due to the prevailing inclement weather, the Navy has launched a special search operation to locate the missing persons, the Navy said.

Despite the rough sea conditions, naval personnel are continuing efforts to locate the missing boat and rescue the eight persons who were travelling on board.

Meanwhile, the Police and Navy are conducting further investigations into the incident.
