Asia-Pacific Aviation Security Conference Opens in Negombo

The 21st Cooperative Aviation Security Programme – Asia Pacific (CASP-AP) Steering Committee Meeting and the 14th Asia-Pacific Aviation Security Coordination Forum commenced ceremonially in Negombo on June 23. The four-day international event, hosted at the Gold Sands Hotel, will continue until June 26.

Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Anura Karunathilaka attended as Chief Guest, while Tao Ma, Regional Director of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for Asia-Pacific, participated as Special Guest. More than 80 international delegates representing 21 countries are attending the conference.

Sri Lanka received significant recognition at the event, with the country being entrusted with the chairmanship of the CASP-AP Steering Committee for 2026-2027. Captain Daminda Rambukwella, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, was formally appointed Chairman.

The conference will focus on aviation security challenges, global trends, international standards and enhanced regional cooperation, while also facilitating the exchange of modern technologies and best practices.
