Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai said that he was not privy to recent discussions between AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswamy and Home Minister Amit Shah and could not comment on them. He added that any clarifications should come directly from the leaders involved.

Speaking on the party’s position in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai said, “And I have been continuously saying with respect to AIADMK, it is for them to decide how they want to go. And the BJP has neither interfered in any party's affairs nor have we told how a party should govern itself. We have never done it. We will not do it.”

He emphasised that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) could always be strengthened, but that decisions about the AIADMK should be taken by the party leadership themselves.

Annamalai noted, “At this point in time, it is very clear that there are four players in the field. There is a DMK party with its formidable alliance, but with a large anti-incumbency in the field. Then there is the NDA with Mr Edappadi K Palanisamy as the Chief Minister candidate.

He further said, “TVK founder Mr Vijay who is in the field. So there are four players now who have shown that they want to go alone, they want to go independently. Now I would say this is a very different Tamil Nadu election because the person who is coming third and fourth will also decide who will come first.”
