69 Deaths Reported Due to Cyclone Ditwah

Cyclone Ditwah, which developed over the Bay of Bengal, has caused severe damage across all districts of the country. As of November 28, a total of 69 deaths had been reported, while 34 individuals remain missing.
Nearly 2,19,285 persons from 61,175 families have been affected. Some 18,443 people from 5,890 families have been sheltered in 266 temporary relief camps, according to the Disaster Management Centre.
Badulla District recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 30 deaths and four missing persons.
Matale reported eight deaths and two missing. Kegalle recorded eight deaths and two missing.
Kandy reported four deaths and 19 missing. Nuwara Eliya recorded six deaths and four missing. Galle reported one death and two missing.
Monaragala recorded two deaths, and Anuradhapura one. Ampara recorded five deaths, Kurunegala three, Hambantota one, and one person is missing in Batticaloa.
In Gampaha District alone, over 70,000 people have been affected by flooding, totalling 71,443 individuals from 17,465 families.
Additionally, 36,574 people from 9,937 families in Puttalam, 20,377 from 6,412 families in Ampara, 14,943 from 4,218 families in Polonnaruwa, 14,049 from 4,475 families in Batticaloa, and 11,350 from 3,844 families in Trincomalee have been affected.
Between 3,000 and 6,000 people have been affected in Badulla, Monaragala, Matale, Colombo, Kegalle, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Ratnapura, Kurunegala, Hambantota, and Vavuniya districts.
Twenty-six spill gates have been opened at the Rajanganaya, Angamuwa, and Kalawewa reservoirs in Anuradhapura; eight at the Deduru Oya in Kurunegala; three at the Polgolla Reservoir in Kandy; six at Weheragala in Monaragala; six at Bowatenna in Matale; two at Rantembe in Kandy; seven at Ulhitiya in Badulla; two at Kukuleganga in Kalutara; and six at Lunugamwehera in Hambantota.
