SLPP Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa stated that Mahinda Jayasinghe constantly dreams of the Rajapaksas, which is why he frequently talks about them.

He further remarked, “Sewwandi’s phone recording should be examined by investigators to determine which Namal’s number it actually is. I would also remind everyone that there is another person named Namal Karunaratne within the government.”

He made these comments while speaking to the media on 24 October 2025 after a discussion held at the SLPP Headquarters.

Rajapaksa added:

“Mahinda Jayasinghe appears obsessed with the Rajapaksas even in his dreams, which explains why he often speaks about us. However, he seems to forget that there’s a Namal within his own government. Still, I’m glad that when they hear the name ‘Namal’, they think of me.”

He further stated that it is the duty of the President and the government to ensure the safety of the citizens. “The President moves around under heavy security, which is commendable—but he must also ensure the safety of others. The Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha requested police protection two months ago, yet no action was taken,” he said.

“When there is credible information of a threat to someone’s life, their security must first be ensured before assessing any allegations or complaints against them. Even suspects linked to underworld groups are transported under heavy protection. So how can the Inspector General of Police ignore a death threat against an elected public representative?”

Rajapaksa added that similar negligence led to the Easter Sunday tragedy, where prior intelligence was ignored. “The government seems more focused on destabilizing the security of those it dislikes. Viewed in this context, one may suspect that certain crimes are being committed with the government’s tacit support,” he said.

He further alleged that when Don Priyasath, who had lodged the first complaint in connection with the 323 containers case, was murdered, the government acted in the same dismissive manner—one minister even commented publicly about the murder before the inquest report was released. “Now, they are trying to divert attention from Lasantha’s killing by linking it to organized crimes,” he added.
