“No Intention to Cling to Power” – President Anura
14-Aug-2025.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has declared that his administration does not intend to cling to power indefinitely and will hand over leadership to the youth at the appropriate time.
Speaking at the National Youth Conference at Suhaddathasa Indoor Stadium on 12 August, he said they had determined both the commencement and the end of their term when accepting office.
The President stressed that the government’s aim is to empower young leaders who can responsibly take over the nation’s future, not to use youth organisations for political or family power. He criticised past practices of giving priority in state institutions to the relatives of politicians instead of ordinary youth.
The government’s vision, he said, is to develop a generation capable of leading Sri Lanka on the world stage with compassion and competence, while addressing unemployment through new industries with private sector cooperation.
