India will not lift ban on TikTok, says IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

The government has ruled out the possibility of TikTok returning to India. Union IT, Information and Broadcasting and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that there is no plan under consideration to revoke the ban on the Chinese short-video platform.

In an interview with Moneycontrol, Vaishnaw made it clear that the matter has not even been discussed within the government. 

“There is absolutely no proposal which has come from any quarters,” he said, responding to speculation that ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, could be preparing for a re-entry.
