Scientists arrived at an alarming estimation of deaths caused by soaring temperatures due to the worsening climate change in cities around Europe this summer – a total of 16,500.

The estimations were made using climate change models used in previous studies in the absence of official data, due to be released soon.

Experts believe that the estimated and recorded death toll caused by the sweltering heatwaves that swept Europe this summer is underestimated.

The primary reason could be that in hospitals around the continent, numerous deaths were mentioned to be caused by cardiovascular or respiratory problems — which could have been due to the rising temperatures — amongst the elderly population.
