Easter Sunday Attacks: Court to Rule on Suresh Sallay’s Writ Petition on October 22
15-Oct-2026.
The Court of Appeal has announced that it will deliver its order on October 22 on applications seeking permission to intervene in a writ petition filed by former Chief of the State Intelligence Service, Suresh Sallay. The petition challenges his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in connection with the ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks.
The applications seeking intervenor status were taken up for consideration on October 14 before a bench comprising Court of Appeal Justices Rohantha Abeysuriya and Priyantha Fernando.
The order on the applications was initially scheduled to be delivered on October 124. However, the bench postponed its decision until October 22. The applications were filed by Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and several civil society organisations.
Former State Intelligence Service chief, retired Major General Suresh Sallay, had filed a writ petition before the Court of Appeal challenging his arrest and continued detention for questioning under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in connection with the investigations into the Easter Sunday bombings.
The intervenor applications were subsequently filed seeking permission for the applicants to join the proceedings and present their submissions in the case.
