2027 Budget Will Be People-Centred: President Anura Kumara
18-Sep-2026.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the Government would ensure that the maximum benefits of economic progress reach the people through development, and that the 2027 Budget would be people-centred.
He made these remarks while addressing a gathering after launching construction work on a new building at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital on September 16.
He further said:
“Economic recovery and taking forward measures towards that recovery are the Government’s primary objectives. There is a section of people waiting to see how any external impact would affect the country internally and how such an impact could be used to attack the Government. They have been acting in this manner for the past two years.
“The economic crisis in 2022 brought about changes in the political and social structure. Therefore, we have a responsibility to ensure economic stability.
“There is a positive assessment of the national economy at both the national and international levels. The economy has now stabilised as a result of the difficult decisions taken amid the crisis.
“People are asking whether they have actually received the benefits of the economic stability that has been achieved. That is a fair question. People will examine what benefits they have received from economic progress. Therefore, the State machinery must take the necessary measures.
“The benefits of economic progress will reach the people through development projects. I accept that action must also be taken in response to the people’s expectations regarding an improvement in their quality of life.
“I will ensure that the maximum benefits of economic progress reach the people through development. The 2027 Budget will be people-centred.”
