17-member committee appointed to amend labour laws

A special 17-member committee has been appointed to make the necessary amendments to the country's labour laws, Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe has stated.
He further said:
The committee has been established with the primary objective of reforming labour welfare provisions and labour laws. It consists of 17 members and is headed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Labour.
Several preliminary drafts that have already been prepared have been submitted to the National Labour Advisory Council.
Extensive discussions will be held with trade unions to obtain their views regarding the proposed amendments to the labour laws, he said.
