Case Against Namal Rajapaksa and Others Postponed to 11 February
30-Oct-2026.
The Colombo Magistrate's Court has ordered the postponement until 11 February of proceedings in the case filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act against Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa and three other suspects.
The case was taken up for hearing on 29 October 2026 before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
At the previous hearing, Criminal Investigation Department investigators had informed the court that steps were being taken to obtain the Attorney General's advice regarding the next legal action to be taken against Namal Rajapaksa and the other suspects.
When the case was called yesterday, the investigators requested a fresh date, stating that the Attorney General's advice had not yet been received.
After considering the submissions made before it, the Magistrate postponed the case until 11 February to enable the investigators to obtain the Attorney General's advice.
No order had been issued directing that Namal Rajapaksa, who is in remand custody, be produced before the court for this case. Consequently, he was not produced before the open court that day.
The case was filed against Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa and three others: Nithya Senadhi Samaranayake, Sujani Bogollagama and Sudarshan Ganegoda, who served as directors of the company N. R. Consultancy.
They have been accused of committing an offence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by investing Rs. 15 million allegedly acquired through unlawful means while Namal Rajapaksa was serving as a Member of Parliament.
